ORYN Join the list

憩い Objects for slower evenings, from Lagos

Make room for living.

ORYN is a small atelier making things for the hours after the work is done. The quiet evening, the dinner that runs late, the book you finally finish. Our first object is almost ready.

A ribbon of incense smoke rising in warm light

憩い

ikoi noun

  1. A rest taken gladly. Repose.
  2. The ease of being where you are, alone or among people you love.

We built ORYN around this word. Rest is more than stopping work. It is the freedom to be present: the quiet of your own space, the warmth of shared company, and permission to enjoy the hour you are in.

An evening, slowed down

Three small things. None of them need anything you don't already have.

  1. Strike a light

Lower the overhead lights. One small flame changes the whole room.

  2. Let the room settle

Put the phone in the other room. Pour something warm. Give it a minute.

  3. Stay a little longer

Alone with a book, or with the friends who came over for no reason at all.

A candle flame glowing in the dark, reflected on a wooden surface

The first object

A candle vessel, shaped to be held and kept. When the wax is gone, you refill it rather than replace it, so it stays in your home for years.
